If you have read my last post about PinkBlush, you’ll know that I was not a fan of maternity wear prior to this pregnancy. I’m a changed woman! Because let me tell you, wearing clothing that is made for this magical time in your life is incredible! Everything fits so much better and feels so good. It is a much better alternative to squeezing into your xs shirt that is now WAY too short for your growing bump.
The only problem was that I had no idea where to shop, which is kind of embarrassing when you already have one baby – like how did I even manage last time?! I had shopped at a few maternity stores, but I was looking for really trendy and stylish clothing that wasn’t going to cost me a fortune. So I decided since I’ve done all the research and shopped all these stores, I should share this list with you, so you don’t have to wonder where to go.
In compiling my list, I mostly stuck with online stores because who really has time to go into a store these days?! That being said, some of the shops do have a retail presence, so I’ve mentioned the ones that do. And for those who aren’t sure about sizing, with maternity clothes you need to buy the size you were wearing pre-pregnancy. Do NOT size up, trust me!
Here is my list of favourites, in no particular order.
1 – A Pea in the Pod
I love this store! This is one of the only places that I shopped at during my first pregnancy, so it easily makes the list. I’ve purchased from both online as well as in-store – they have a ton of stores across the US and own Motherhood in Canada. I did most of my shopping online at apeainthepod.com. This is my go-to store for designer denim. I literally refuse to buy any other pair of maternity jeans unless they are from here. I usually browse the sales section and can always find a couple of really amazing pairs of jeans on sale. I’ve also purchased a few dresses and cardigans from here. The quality is amazing!
You can shop a few of my favourite pieces (some of which I own) below. Oh, and the best part, they are having a designer denim sale on right now!!
2 – Isabella Olivier
If you love really beautiful elegant clothing, this is the place to shop while pregnant. The dresses are TDF (to die for)! I could literally buy every single dress on this site, if it wouldn’t render me bankrupt. But more impressive are their tops. I usually hate maternity tops because they all look the same, but these tops are really pretty and don’t look maternity, which is the ultimate goal. And as a bonus, they have some perfect maternity work skirts! The price point is definitely on the high side, but the quality is exceptional. You can also do what I do and go straight to the sale section 😉
3 – asos
** Update. ASOS is having a 30% off everything Black Friday with code EPIC30. Valid till 11/28**
Asos is where I’ve purchased most of my wardrobe (with the exception of jeans: see #1 above) for baby #2. I’ve bought a tonne of dresses and a couple of tops from here. They are an online fast-fashion retailer based out of the UK, but even though they are across the pond, shipping times are FAST. Quality has been good on the maternity side and inventory is vast. I do love the variety, but it can be daunting to go through so much clothing. There is one downside if you are Canadian: there is a custom/duty fee when it gets shipped to you and it’s usually pretty hefty. However, I had heard from a friend (and successfully tried this) that if you order under $75, there are no custom costs. My American friends, you are all good – not duties or taxes when shipped to the US! Bonus: They also have an app, so I’ve done lots of my shopping from bed when I should be sleeping…oops!
4 – PinkBlush
I did a post on PinkBlush about a week ago and this gorgeous paisley dress. If you’re looking for feminine and flowy, this is the place to shop. PinkBlush is an online retailer that sells both maternity and non-maternity clothing. PinkBlush dresses yearn for spring/summer weather with their floral motifs and flowy silhouettes. It is not only feminine and beautiful, but also super affordable. It’s a shame that my pregnancy ends in spring….
5 – H&M Maternity
I love H&M maternity mainly because of its price point. I think I really struggled with maternity wear the first time around because it was hard to justify spending money on clothes that you know you’ll only wear for 9ish months. But buying on-trend pieces at H&M prices is perfect in my books! I especially love their basics, like leggings, tanks etc. There is one caveat though – not all H&M locations carry their maternity line. So either buy online, or use the store locator to find out if your location does.
6 – Hatch Maternity
Up next is Hatch. If you are on-trend and hate traditional, curve-hugging maternity clothing, this is your store. Hatch features very trendy, modern fashions; think boxy dresses, jumpers and slouchy blouses. The designs are simple, yet stylish. The best way I can describe this line, is to compare it to Club Monaco. Price point, like CM, is high, but they are having a pretty good sale on right now…
7 – Nordstrom
I decided to update this post with a bonus 7th store since it only made sense. Why Nordstrom over some others? Well, because their selection is HUGE. Nordstrom delivers everywhere, is easy to buy from and offers pretty hassle free returns. And on top of ALL of that, they often have really great store wide sales that you can take advantage of. See some of my current faves below…
I had a few more options, but I wanted to keep this list to my favourites this year. Leave me a message below if you want me to feature a few more stores! Happy shopping my lovely mamas!
