Bridging the Gap with Sandra Mimran Smith of Boost

Have you ever felt like you’ve met your future self? I know, this is a weird concept to understand, but I’m convinced I have just met me, exactly 20 years from now.

Let me explain. A few months ago, I embarked on a journey with 200 other amazing women, to help bridge the gap between generations. The campaign is called Bridging the Gap, and it pairs 100 Millennial with 100 midlife influencers together, to help stop ageism and end stereotypes in the industry. More importantly, it has given us all the chance to learn from a different generation and to grow as women.

By luck, or chance or pure genius, I was paired with Sandra Mimran Smith, my future self. She is me, or what I assume I will be like, 20 years from now.

Sandra is beautiful, inside and out. The one way we do differ is that she is one of the most positive people I’ve ever met. I had the pleasure of FaceTiming with Sandra, and in my typical way, I would downplay my achievements with some light self-deprecating humour. Sandra on the other hand, spent the entire conversation making me feel like a star! She was so positive and lovely, talking about all of the good things I had done, all within the first 5 minutes of meeting me!

But more than just that, she is an amazing business person. Sandra started Boost to help busty women find loungewear that actually fits. I personally understand this struggle, being a busty girl is tough, especially when you want to be really fashionable. Most trends are made for small chested women. Sandra had this same issue, and while she’s learned to dress for her body type, she was not okay with the lack of loungewear options for busty women. So, she did what every strong, determined, self-starting woman would do: she set out to create it – and at the age of 50!

There is so much to admire about Sandra, and even more to learn from her. This experiment, if we can call it that, has been invaluable. What I learned from the advice Sandra has given me, plus the path she’s taken in life, has been incredible. She has taught me not to give up on my dreams and that it truly is never too late to do what you want.

I’m busy. Really busy. Especially with two small children. Working full time, blogging, and making time for my family are all really tough to do. Sandra has shown me, and encouraged me, to continue down this path and to not give up, even when it feels like everything (i.e. daily IG algorithm changes) is against you.

She is truly inspiring and I’m grateful for this experience.
