As a style blogger I do a fair amount of shopping. At the risk of sounding really superficial, I love the way new clothing makes me feel. It’s less about the article being brand new and of a certain name brand and more about that new piece allowing me to exert my creative side. In any case, December is a bad month for me in terms of shopping. I employ the “one for you, one for me” method of Christmas shopping – I know i’m not alone here ladies! Not only that, but i’m very fortunate to also receive WAY too many gifts from my family and closest friends. And lastly, since my birthday is in January, I get another wack of presents one month later. It really is a special time of year.
This brings me to the purpose of this post. I’ve teamed up with a bunch of like-minded, beautiful women (Jenna, Kait, Whitney and Danielle) who have all decided to embark on a shopping strike for all of January. Not only because December is a really expensive month, but also because style isn’t about always having the latest item, it’s about being able to piece together articles of clothing – old and new – to create something that makes you feel beautiful. We’re calling it “Shop Your Closet” because that’s exactly what we will do. All of January, none of us will buy a single article of clothing. Instead, we will use what we already have to create stylish, on-trend outfits. Hopefully we can inspire others to do the same and reduce some of the unnecessary consumerism.
We’re encouraging as many people to follow along this trend and to use our hashtags on Instagram – #STOPtillyoudrop #noshopjanuary #stylemyclosetjanuary
Check out the cutest skirt EVER that I wore yesterday from Akira, with a simple tank and cardigan.
Go ahead, try it!
P.S. Jenna has some really great tips on how to make it through this month, so go check out her blog!
